Bread & Butter Pickles

Ingredients:

  • 1 gallon cucumbers
  • 6 onions
  • 1 green pepper
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1/2 tsp gr. cloves
  • 2 tsp celery seed
  • 1 1/2 tsp tumeric
  • 1 tbsp mustard seed
  • 2 cups vinegar (*grandkid note: or does this say 5 cups?)

Instructions:

  1. Slice cucumbers, onions and green pepper. Let set for 2 hours in salt and pack with 2 trays of ice.
  2. Drain and add sugar, cloves, celery seed, tumeric, mustard seed and vinegar. Boil slowly for 10 minutes.
  3. Makes 4 quarts – 8 pints.
